- I've added timeline timestamps - As we are well into 2020 the Space Marines seem something I should put off no longer, despite still having some other races and factional elements I need to cover in the wider galaxy of 40K it seems the right time to begin the process of covering the Space Marine’s. While it is tempting for me to go all in on a weighty singularly comprehensive video that covers every possible detail of a legion/chapter, from experience this would become an all consuming sprawling multi-hour video that would likely take me months to create - I want these instead to be consumable and not hinder production of other material each month. I was all ready to leap straight into the first Legion… but then I realised in order to properly begin this series, it must establish how this all began. So this is a deliberately condensed version which I think hits the key elements from the beginning to the Primaris - so that I can continue on from there. Lastly I’ll say that as per usual anything or anyone I’ll omit related to a legion’s history or events will be by choice, to either save time, or pin til later.
Fantastic!

Thank you. You just reminded me how much I hate everything about The War of the Beast.
I listen to Luetin talk about warhammer almost every night as I fall asleep and its great
Out of curiosity, are all Marines going forward going to be Primaris and we'll see the eventual decline of the firstborn to nothing or are they something only Cawl can make so they'll always be limited going forward? Also, how did Cawl get his hands on millions of marine quality initiates and how did he train them? So he's being stealing top grade soldiers from one of mankinds linchpins and training them in a basement or while they're a meatsicle or does he have a huge staff to help him out? From what I know marines train each other so does Cawl have a bunch of Marine drill sergeants in his basement? Also a lot of Chapters have their own trails and training, do the Primaris have those?
1. Astartes are by definition independent armies, they make their own primaris now. Though the fist batches did come from Cawl 2. Inconsistent writing. But it's not millions of primaris, there are barely even a million loyal first born space marines. More like 50-100 000 at first
I really like Dorn's protocol. It's just a huge potential source of conflict among the astartes. Very interesting. Also loved that you used the Rubicon metaphor. That's really fitting.
this is why i dont play imperium. its too complicated. I don't know whether love or hate the emperor lol. some of the primarchs i like though. mostly vulcan, he seems like the only truly good one.
And how can I transform my nearly 200 normal space marine into primaris? :D
This guy has the most badass voice ever
Thank you for your videos, they've been excellent at helpin me learn about 40K
Some Terrans Actually stayed with the Heretics while some non-terrans stayed with the Loyalists
The emperor can shapeshift, or at least change the way he is seen. It’s said he lived many different lives during the dark ages
I feel like The Emperor promised half of the primarchs to Chaos. He just didn't get to pick which ones Edit: Primarchs are just Demon Princes of the Emperor given a physical form. Sorcerer soul-craft mixed with genetic tinkering.
In one of the Luteins videos I've heard that astartes were fighting along with harlequins and scitarii. I can't find the specific video now and it's bugging me af. Was it during the flight of Eisenstein? I remember something about Eldar opening a Webway portal to escape forces of Chaos saving loyalist Astartes. Something rings a bell but I have no idea in which church.
As a long time Space Marine junkie who drifted away and came back to see the Primaris overshadowing my regular marines this video really helped me grow to care about the new boys in the market and better envision how my mixed personal chapter will exist.
Feel so real
@57:00 Lol this guy...
Last Wall thing was dumb, but splitting up legions was even dumber. It was giving up on uniting humanity for the most part. Instead of banding together more and fighting on it was all about hold ground as best as you can. This is why I think losing the Angel was the biggest blow next to the Emperor. If the Angel had survived he could have kept his brothers united and maybe even pushed on.
War
This is how i get through my migranes.. great storytelling
I don't get it tbh. The normal primaris marines look fine but what's with all the new stupid looking armor suits? Can't we just have good old terminators and boxy dreadnoughts?
17:15 you heard it here folks. The Emperor was just simply built different. Fuck yeah
the primaris-lore is sooooo stupid. Pls lets just all ignore it. I certainly do so.
the last war protocol is also stupid and wouldnt work in practice. As pointed out the chapters are spread far and the logistical effort to bring them all together instead of just grabbing the closest chapters available, regardless of what legion/geneseed they where made from far outweighs the benefits. Speaking of which: The benefits, in my oppinion would be 0 because the culture of the imperial fists successor-chapters is just too different. You cant put a black templer, a fists examplar and a crimson fist shoulder to shoulder and expect that they are somehow more connected than they would be to other Astartes just because they share some ancient herritage. So the protocol is not only heretical and impractical its also really dumb.
Plot twist: The Emperor is actually a manlet and him being ten feet tall is the psychic illusion.
dont they have any pain killer?
The emperor is giving the chaos gods what he promised. The game is what he promised.
I find your stark criticism of the Big E to be very refreshing. It makes for a way more coherent understanding of 40k as a fictional setting, and as a hobby. It also neatly avoids the fashy fanboying so many lore nerds have for the Big E that really clouds and poisons the more interesting conversations we can have with this wild ass IP.
Calgar survived all that, but couldn't survive Marvel. Aren't we so glad GW decided to go "mainstream"...
Corax got straight up invisibility! That's nothing to sniff at.
I mean, this is interesting. But how did humanity become a space empire before all this and then collapse? Why did these thunder warriors even follow this man? If the emperor is old as ppl let on and he is a pycer God, why did he sit on his hands for so long?
the emperor 17:14 - just. built. different.
All conceded to the codex... except the space wolves... and the black templars... and though they seem to listen to it, the dark angels in practice act like a legion... and for a short time the imperial fists
The emporer is a traitor to humanity! Instead of protecting mankind during the revolt of the man of iron and constructing his legions at that time to protect mankind, he waited until mankind was kicked down to the ground so he could give it the final blow and resurrect it as a puppet of chaos !
14:15 Is it possible that the primarchs very geneseed was altered when chaos scattered them across the galaxy? Since the Primarchs themselves have the same issues as their legionaries more often than not.
As much as I'm not a Dornian fan-boy, I felt summing him up as having the "mastery of building walls" was a mega understatement. I'd argue that he was gifted with the mastery of stubborness and defiance. As a master builder, including earthworks and fortifications if he chose to dig his heels in on a world (Iron Cage) very little could get him to feck off again. It was his stubbornness and defiance that led to the Imperial Palace being fortified so it wouldn't fall. It was his stubbornness and defiance that led him to attack a Chaos Warship and get his paws chopped off (because lets face it, he not dead).
outro song ?

“OH, CHAPTER MASTER! YOU CAN’T BECOME A PRIMARIS MARINE!” “SHUT YOUR FACE YOU SHITGRILL! I DO WHAT I WANT, AND I LIKE WHAT I DO!”
I don't know you but to me the emperor is a kind of a kid...
Luetin09 have been listening to your content for years it’s perfect for night time when you want to drift into to sleep with a great story of 40k lore with the charms of such a awesome narrator, keep it up!
10000 years is a long time, I think you are allowed to change your mind a little in that span
"The emporer would call upon is psychic power to completely erase Horace from existance and tear his soul apart, never to be reborn" thats super metal and sad knowing the only way to save your favorite son after corruption was to completely erase his existence
***the deal sas that as he WANTS to be a god he projised the materium for 10k years, and they have that time to CLEAR THE BOARD. Remember the warp is beyond time but events must play out here. Hes offered the materium asmanchess board, remeber he game he plays with malchador before the heresey, when he returns hell have gestated and its akl about plays and turns in chess, a gamble***
I disagree with the idea that the emperor would abandon the primarchs if his plan succeeded. He obviously intended them to be integral to running certain parts of the imperium. For example: I think that it’s pretty obvious that it was intended for Magnus to sit on the golden throne to power the human webway.
If anything the fact that Magnus is a glorified battery proves he was just a tool to be used. Lol
"New path was opened for all Astartes" except the ones that died but sure. I'm gonna get the distinct feeling chaos marines will magically steal this tech. Instead of doing something clever with the fact that they have super natural beings that could mutate them in ways thats superior to a primaris. But hey. Who said GW were creative?
Interesting that GW decided to do their own thing & took the "Real Worlds/Emperor Constantine's" own 325 AD "Council/Conclave Of Nicea".. The council where the SpaceMAN/Ascended Master/"Emanuel-Sananda" AKA: Jeshua Christos, or "JayCee" as his drinking buddies called him, was wholly DEIFIED by the early church Bishops/$hotcallers... A MAN, made living GOD.... The "Trinity" was also codified @ that very council..."Father>Son>Holee Ghost" -Among other things... Of course, this was all done to >consolidate power for political & economic gain< within the early Roman Catholic Church & by extension, Roman held territories & of course, ~ "The Big E".... Ya shoulda saw it, trembling bowels, chewed down fingernails, sweat oozing from every mans brow, grown men doing the "PeePeeDance", Emp Constantine, ever so gently caressing n' rubbing the pommel of his jewel encrusted Gladius Short Sword, giving all present the "HairyEyeballz". One by one all ~impatiently awaiting the decision they were to make in HIS favor, HEAVY consternation & flabbergastation abounding between the jittering opposing sides of the isle... Intently watching the nervous n' pacing robe-clad circus clowns from the shadows, my mind racing for a sprightly practical joke, nimbly inventing the first iteration of the world renowned "Post-It" note with a deftly applied n' sticky Nasem Viscosi. AKA: A booger, squished to the back of a torn piece of parchment paper. ~Torn from a nearby napping Cardinals Bible-(I saved the other 1/2 of it for later, as they made GREAT rolling papers)- .... Upon such I quickly & quite drunkenly scribbled n' giggled away with some incense charcoal lifted from smoldering nearby censer: ~"Stimulum Calcitrare Me Obsecro"~ As I walked past one of my former opium den/whoring/drinking buddies of Roman days long past, who just recently made High Bishop by selling his soul &/or children to one of the local Secret Society 9th Circle Serpent Cults. Busily taking root within the Vaticans already ancient tunnel system & catacombs below... I heartily congratulated him on his upwardly rising & downward slurping n' sliding mobility, thereby slapping him rather stoutly on the mid back with that freshly conceived 4th century AD "Post-It" note, speedily leaving the building thereafter to go search out the hairiest woman & best weed place/dimly-lit opium den in Constantinople.... Be Well, But Be Careful!....;) They are STILL trying to kill me for that innocent little HA-HA
Horus is a beta. Big G walked off the same blade that dropped him
im glad you portrayed the emperor for what he is. a nutty mega-dictator
Luetin needs release the outro as a separate video
I like the sister's of battle but i also wish there were female space marines.
Primaris Marines probably were divided up cuz of logistics nine chapters trying to maintain nine different genes he's no one gene C probably Logistics
Xabuyasha vs tamula
Anybody else here actually like The Primaris Marines? Or is it just me?
I think the armour looks cool Then I'm bitterly reminded about what happened to the thunder warriors
Wow the Emperah really screwed it up!
"the godlike ability to build walls" Dorn laughs at you whining in Perterabo
1:02:35 song name?
What’s the outro music?
12:30 I have strong feelings about this. I do not think Corvus's obvious and latent abilities are paled with Vulkan's frequently misused and abused singular ability. Afterall, it's a living hell to be predictable, gullible, and immortal: you won't even be able to suicide your way out of the inevitable trap you find yourself in. HOWEVER, being functionally immortal but having the ability to "JUST NOT BE THERE ANYMORE" gives you the flexibility to avoid the pitfalls that most immortal beings find themselves in.
You've just been validated in the Fury of Magnus about you know... thunder warriors not being the only ones that will be betrayed.
thats actually on my very soon to read list, so its good to know. Dont worry btw I dont care about spoilers for anything so no worry.
song at 1:21:13 please?
Ive been watching you for the good part of a few months now. I have to say Im so thankful for this channel and your existence Luetin. Ive always had mental health issues, and sleeping is no easy task. More often than not I find myself staring into apparitions created by my mind or trying to silence the other people in my head. I started listening to your channel after my friend told me about warhammer and I wanted to learn more I started listening to you especially when Im trying to sleep and the past few months of sleep have been the best theyve ever been. Of course its still no small task but I just want to let you know how much easier youve made it. I have more energy during the day and Im happier, and I also get to learn about the insane 40k lore since Im also a lore junky. I know im just some random small person in a following of hundreds upon thousands, but if you ever find this comment I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Keep up the amazing work L, -Some random internet stranger
heresy
For some reason this video made me a Crawl fan because he is the last "true" scientists that the emperor himself supported and I love his picture at 1:02:38 this makes me realize why he is an awesome character as he both a mechanic, engineer, and a biologist and a scientists!
"I can mask my actual physical height with ease... BECAUAE I'M BATMAN!"
In the Novel 'Saturnine" it is discovered that it was -not- chaos that stole away the Primarchs. It was, for lack of a better word, thier mother...
What’s the piece that plays during the Astartes Chapters section?
I like how he pronounces deploymacy
''greatest secret'' Who the fuck cares ?
I like the "last wall protocol "my self I see it as a very in-character thing for the Primark of the fists to do. if there is anything truth in Warhammer 40K ti's that the imperial fists are a bunch of stubborn bastards. all of their successor chapters are stubborn bastards too. hell, Grimaldus is too stubborn to die. the last wall protocol is Dorn stubbornly resisting guilliman's codex and using his own son's stubbornness agest them to get them to do what they do the best .hold so dame ground!!!!
1:04:10 Emperor says NO!
I love your channel man, I've never played the tabletop know a couple of people who either do or used to, but I was always interested in the lore from small parts I heard from friends. Upon finding your channel I've become addicted, the way you manage to take a vast amount of lore and make it understandable and super interesting is just awesome. Great job man, really enjoy the content.
If Humanity was embroiled in a "Dark Age" before the arrival of The Emperor then would He not be justified in the use of extreme violence (given that violence was the one constant)? It seems that negotiation of any kind would not work.
17:40: There's another option: like in many myths and depictions of great figures in historical mediaeval people, more important people are depicted as literally larger than life, sometimes as literal giants. And then there's the tendency to exagerate myths in popular depictions, like how Goliath is like 6' 9", but he's depicted as a literal giant, like 50 feet tall often times.
1:19:50 I left YT on as I slept and when I awoke this morning, I was greeted with one of the most bad ass slide shows ever, excellent way to begin the day.
Rogal Dorn walks into the room. “I am the Vigilant, the Master of Building Walls!” *All the other Primarchs point and laugh.* “Loser...” one of them shouts from the rear. “STFU Magnus! You might be able to telepathically communicate with the Emperor from half way across the universe or fry an entire planet with a thought, but I can still build one hell of a damn good wall!”
The rest of the Imperium: Warfare Rogal Dorn: Wallfare
Primaris are the worst addition to 40k
You would think for how forward thinking and not bound by religon Cawl would have taken samples from Tyranids to experiment on for the new marines.
Primarchs are like that family guy-episode where they get super powers, but Meg only gets the power to grow her figer nails quickly
What’s the music from? I love it
You never mention Space Wolves... ?
When he wrote the codex there was fuck all chaos and xenos... Bit weird you didn't mention that. The codex is holding man back more than anyone or anything and even he said so himself after waking...
And as been said by many, the Raptor Project and it's first 500 Astartes were perhaps a halfway step to what became the Primaris Marines. But accomplished by Corvus Corax with the Primarch project tech given to him by the Emperor back in the Heresy Era in a bid to rebuild the Raven Guard Legion but was later sabotaged by the Alpha Legion.
Dorn does have good power, he's extremely effective against the warp, he's a super blank along with building walls.
These thoughts are drenched in HERESY!
57:05 History became legend, legend became myth and for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed-- wait, I'm getting confused here.
primaris are trash
DAMN THAT OUTRO. Gave me the chills and almost brought a tear to my eye. ALMOST.
I would love to see a link dump of all of that artwork. I'd love to have it was screensaver backgrounds.
Going onto the tiniest point in the entire video, aka "why is the emperor big?" I've always interpreted it as artistic license. The setting has more than a few nods to medieval cultures, and a major trend in medieval art (and especially Christian religious art) was bigger = more important. Ergo, the Emperor's portrayed as bigger because he's *The Emperor*. Just an idea.
In your video on the nature of Chaos, you mention that the lore makes it clear that the Chaos Gods exist throughout time, past, present, future. Therefore, they would have known everything about the Emperor's intent when he arrived on Malloc (or however it's spelled). So, they gave the Emperor power and knowledge that they knew they would wind up opposing later because it would be dangerous to them. So why would they have given out the power that would be dangerous to them in the first place? Yes, yes, I know, there is probably no answer to this. I personally believe that the whole tale about Malloc and the Emperor going there and dealing with the Chaos Gods is strictly imaginary because of it's total implausibility and to my view breaking of the reasoning behind the rest of the lore about the Emperor and his conflict with Chaos on behalf of humanity.
Can you make a video onbeach of the primarch's? Like what are their abilities and history.
Were the primarchs created after the thunder warriors were slain? Also how were the proto astatartes created?
From the emperor's own genetic material the thunder warriors were crafted. Like cheap quick to expire versions of custodes ALMOST, with significantly less battle power. Thunder warriors were created around the same time if not slightly after the primarchs. As there were astartes present at the thunder warrior's last battle
Is the Emperor really just the one who walks between the rows?
Ultramarines were also an EMPIRE building force. The others just seemed to be self sustaining while Ultramarines would exponentially grow more powerful. Each of the main worlds of Ultramar were the equivalent of other Legion homeworlds in terms of production and Space Marine recruitment. Calth was to be the 4th. If Horus Heresy happened 50 or 100 years later I doubt they would have stood a chance against the Ultrmarines.
What is the name of the music at the end? :)
sisters of silence and rowboat girlyman see the emperor height of an average man
37:50 Brilliant piece! The script, the image, the story. - No wonder so many of them fell to chaos.
