Loved the video! New to Blood Bowl, starting with the Black Orcs, so this really helped me a lot. I love the idea of going hard on the Troll and TTM blitzer. Give the Troll strong arm and nerves of steel (big investment I know) and make the blitzer as you detailed. Seems like it could really force some tough choices for your opposing coach!
is this saving spp new? ive only ever played on pc and dont think ive ever done it
I have only played the video game casually. My original understanding was to always go for block and dodge combo on nearly every unit first. This is making me think differently about that strategy.
Hey Will! Well, Blodge is certainly never bad, but it's always worth having a look at other combos! I really like Brawler on the Black Orcs, sure it's not as good as Block, but I really think it's good enough to let you take Guard or MB next!
Guards causes more casualties than mighty blow and spreads spp amongst rest of your team.
It's totally situational. If you have a lot of bash opponents in your league (Orc, Dwarf, Chorf, Lizards, Chaos, Norse) then I'd have one start MB for blitzing and the rest Guard to maximise blocks. Dwarves in particular can rapidly get a few Guard pieces and if you don't have Guard yourself you're going to be getting pounded in on your turn and finding few 2D blocks on your turn. MB is only effective if you can get the blocks in.
Hey Paul - the classic Guard vs Mighty Blow arguement!!
Getting back into BB, so I might be wrong, but isn’t guard still useful on black orcs, as it makes it harder for your opponent to get a 2 dice block on your guys. Keeping them standing for longer.
Hey Samael! Guard is totally useful no matter what! With my Blorc games I've managed to use Grab to keep edges covered so a 1D is the best the Oppo can normally get! I think I'm just a very fighty Orc coach :D
I think the way to develop the goblins is to just take a ransom Agility skill at 3 SPP and depending on what you get develop them from there. It’s great because it keeps TV lower and gets them more useful earlier in their likely short lifespan.
Also don't forget that with 5/6 Grab pieces off the bat, this is the archetypal surfing team, especially with ST4 and Brawler to re-roll both down into pushes: just line up your Black Orcs and escort that LoS patsy off the side of the pitch. In this regard, taking Frenzy on a Goblin will really make your opponent think twice about engaging you. Don't forget that your Orcs cannot get Frenzy though.
Defensive is only during opposing team turn :(
Goblin Blitzer: Block, Dauntless, tackle, MB, Sure Feet
Just a casual 86 SPP :D
Is there still a strip ball skill?
@The Bonehead Podcast One stripper goblin, 1 wrestler goblin. Throw the most appropriate one depending on the runner you want to take down
There is indeed! General Skill, and I don't think it changed at all from the old game - what're you thinking? Suicidal Goblin Stripper??
How is it ruled when you reroll a BD with brawler, can you use your normal team reroll to reroll the other die after your brawler roll ?
Probably not, though I don't doubt that question will get an FAQ quickly. As I'm reading it, on page 24 under rerolls, team rerolls for a dice pool must reroll the whole pool, and since you can never reroll a dice more than once, Brawler is probably not going to allow the use of a team reroll afterwards. But that's just my interpretation based on the leaked rulebook.
Hoping Bretonnian Nobility are soon? Keen to know what to do with them. (For the rookies, that's Imperial Nobility, but, let's face it. Same thing) Also hoping the short story competition will be discussed shortly?
I'll be finishing up more of the Stories reading on Saturday, so should have some Story news next week :D
I'm happy to see you started with the variant goblin team ;)
@The Bonehead Podcast exactly
Hahaha! It's just Good Goblins and Good small-Trolls, right?? :D
It pains me to say this but I dont believe Nerves of Steel works with TTM... With how Throw teammate and pass have been clearly defined as separate actions, passing skills no longer work with TTM. Believe me, I'm hoping I'm wrong about that but as far as I can tell from the leaks... 😪
I'm hoping I'm wrong... considering every ogre, Treeman, and troll have Pass access I'd like to assume Pass skills are meant to work TTM since otherwise what's the point to having access to those skills? Just to stick leader on a big guy; 1 out of 12 skills? Really hoping an FAQ on launch clears that up...
Oh no.... oh no...! Arthur, I think you're right!! Good bye NoS TTM!!
I think On The Ball could be a good skill for a Gobbo. It can save you rerolls if you can catch on kick off and speeds up your throw teammate plays. And I know stunties don't interfere as well but it can be fun to make a nuisance of themselves.
Haha definitely! OTB on Chameleon Skinks has been more useful than expected (from a "pass block" point of view, KOR was always great!)
Break Tackle should still be only once per turn. Still fantastic on the stunty pieces, but it's not always on.
Hey Brian! Yeah, you're right on that - I probably get a little excited when I describe it, but yeah it is indeed once per turn!
I would give 1 of my black orcs block early and use him as a blitzer block tackle mb the rest i like your suggestions and will steal them
Hahaha I am glad!! Yeah one guy with Block for the Blitzing is a good plan!!
I think it's worth pointing out that you spend SPP's in BB2020, you no longer accrue them.
Hey Nathan, yes indeed! I was trying to figure out how long you'd have to wait to get the second skill etc :D but yeah, when they're gone - they're gone!!
Wrestle on goblins is also a great way of getting your opponent's players prone and foulable. A goblin laying prone is not much of a target, so it keeps them safe too.
@The Bonehead Podcast Challenge accepted!
Jay Dog, on the money there! Extra points if you can pull it off with a Snotling haha!
Brawler sounds too risky than it should. Also is Griff and varag in the box or just models that can be proxied as them?
Brawler is an awesome skill to have - a free reroll on one dice. Also griff and varag is in the box
Yes I agree Brawler would be risky on a ST3 or below player but is much less risky on a higher strength player like the Black Orcs. Most of the time you will have a 2 die block meaning you can always fall back on the result of the other die....mind you it doesn’t stop you getting double skulls sometimes!
It feels riskier. Specially when the original roll has a skull.
@Paladin Demo if you roll a push and a both down you can reroll the both down and try for a pow but still take the push. You're not locked into using the rerolled dice
To me it sounds more likely you getting a better chance to roll skulls.
I thought Defensive only worked on the enemy turn, not your own.
Only in your own turn*
It does!! Oops, Sorry if I misspoke at all 😅
