Everything wrong with Woke Culture (and the impact on feminism)

From Captain Marvel and Rey Skywalker, to the Live Action Mulan, and Charlie's Angels - it seems like women are kicking butt up and down movies and tv shows. But how come no one likes these female heroes? No one seems to like the new Batwoman and the new female Doctor who. Why?
Is it because of Woke Feminism?
In this video, I dive into this new form of feminism that's taking everyone and everything by storm, and break down why exactly it's so damn alienating!

  • Self-congratulator? Self-agrandizing? Let me throw in self-pitying too. Does that remind you one gender more than the other? My surprise isn't that this happens it's that more moderate and sane feminists act like they had no idea this would happen, that it was the natural consequence of their cause and ultimately, their fault. At least take ownership of your actions rather than shrug and pretend like you and yours had nothing to do with it.

  • I really don't dislike the new female Doctor, she's fine. It's not my favorite choice they've made, but I love the show so much I keep watching. But MAN, the storyline is nonexistent. They're just bopping around doing nothing. The script and characters and everything is just going downhill so much and it breaks my heart! That show is so good and it really feels like it's never going to be the same.

  • Why was Superman a great movie despite the innate ability he was literally born with? It seems that ‘earning’ one’s place can come from struggles apart from those needed to achieve physical power. Perhaps the task of “earning one’s place” is more difficult for people to appreciate or even detect when the character of focus is a woman and not a man. I do not completely disagree with your analysis, but I do not think the current state of “woke feminism movie goers” disenfranchises all sorts of criticism. Just the kind born out of sexism. Criticism of female-lead movies can be remedied by making a video like yours sans the emphasis on “the irrational feminists (a group that is again, much less prevalent than you seem to indicate)”.

  • Love the point about criticism 👏🏻 Women will sap their own potential if they believe that they already have everything that they can be just because they are a woman. These characters ironically hinder women’s potential by saying that simply being a woman is enough to make someone or a story good. It is silly really. Doesn’t work in movies, doesn’t work in the world.

  • Most of these movies work with the logic of "We can only make the female character good by making the male characters bad." So what these movies are ACTUALLY doing is saying women aren't good enough. That's what I hate about these woke movies.

  • What we need is MORE - not less. We need more PERSONALITY. We also need more different types of female heroes and not just one single lead character female hero type. There's not just one type that's right - there are several. Directors and producer need to learn what women are actually like as real, multifaceted human beings. More female directors need to be given the space to experiment without having to worry about pleasing everyone. Because otherwise they'll lose the one chance they got to finally direct. And everyone also need to start wanting to see more than just "one type" of female hero. Personally I don't want to see even more selflessness, "pleasantness", softness and general niceties, or "likeable" female leads who have to relish in their own beauty while doing action. I wanna see more female characters who feel like.. like Darth Vader. Or the lead in Illang The Wolf Brigade. To have badass epic practical armor. If they're brooding or jaded that they're SUPER cool too. Without being over the top "hard" or angry. When it comes to more classic action movies with female leads then I looove Alita so much. I LIVED when I watched it in the cinema because she feels REAL. She's so badass yet has real, actual character traits and emotions too. Currently lots of people reward the action movies with strong badass female characters who are also soft and maternal. Badass characters shouldn't have to be forced to be soft in order to be accepted. Many hate Captain Marvel and love Wonder Woman. I love both. And characters like Buffy. Tho it's aged, she displayed sooo many character traits while being badass and that was awesome. Xena was awesome too since she had fun while loving the brutality of battle! I loved that. I just wish sexiness wasn't required in the characters to see that. Fury Road was a welcome break in that kind of thing. Feminists generally don't like the way women are represented in this new "era". These kinds of characters are literally Hollywood's misguided attempts while scrambling to keep up. They somehow decided to do a full 180 from toxic masculinity to bad female representation. It's beyond me how they decided that. Everyone loses in the current situation with these types of characters - and everyone's unhappy Female characters need to be allowed to exist as they actually are in real life and not just as empty shells with forced tropes and agendas. Personally I reaaalllyyy wanna see more female characters designed like Loki. And more of all the classic top action stars that have that like "glint in the eye" kinda feel to them. The ones who you just want to BE. Not fall in love with, but to actually become just like them. Like the male leads in movies like Die Hard, Fast and the Furious, or the kinds of characters that Dwayne Johnson plays. Badass fighters who are also FUN. Sheer pure awesomeness. They can be badass, broken, decide to go after vengeance in a story, yet still have fun while doing it. Have human aspects to them showing that they're fully designed characters. They shouldn't have to be forcefully "pleasant", sexy or beautiful, just to be liked.

  • Brilliant videos. Thank you. Have enjoyed your analysis of this woke crap we are having to live through. We need a world war to teach people the meaning of "struggle". Not getting your daily soya latte is not a "struggle". Not having gender neutral toilets is not a "struggle". Sitting on Twatter trying to get so called facists banned is not a "struggle". Struggling is living though a war on a knife edge where entire countries are conquered and the population subjugated.

  • the title of this video is pretty misleading, in the end it's the writers of the script that don't create good characters for these female characters right? the woke culture saw that there were more men on screen and especially more male heroes, so they wanted to change that, the woke culture never said let's change all the male characters into female characters without giving them a proces of earning respect

  • As a Star Wars fan, my favourite character was Princess Leia (on the IV, V and VI): she was not perfect, but she was sweet, fought with everyone as an equal, she had morals and values, she was smart and she was human in her character. And that, that girl was a role model to me. I loved her, but I did not like Rey. Not my cup of tea.

  • Thank you, as a feminist myself i 100% agree with everything you said. Today, the representation of Women's empowerment in media is forced in such a wrong way that it makes me cringe. I also feel like it happens to appeal to the woke feminist (usually) teenage girls, as the target audience, to make them feel represented and validate their toxic views about feminism. And that's the worst, because at the end of it, the only goal of the producers of these shows is not to make activism but just to appeal to an audience like any other to make money, so it's a purely commercial move, without really any pursue of a positive representation behind it. Also, i really like when you said that confident women don't have to put down men to feel strong and confident: that's the same thing that feminism bashes men for, and rightly does so (putting women down to feel better about themselves) but in their eyes, when women do it it's perfectly acceptable and sign of confidence, when really, having to put ANYONE down to get yourself up is sign of very low confidence, and it's also kinda miserable.

  • The secret is that "woke feminism" _is_ feminism and always was. Feminism didn't give us Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor. _Good storytelling_ gave us both. Good female characters aren't good because feminism exists. Good female characters exist because a good story will have good characters. As to what feminism gave us? Disney's versions of Star Wars, Captain Marvel, the Charlie's Angel's re-reboot, the Ghostbusters remake... And to answer your question about what -woke feminists- feminists are seeking... whether it's equality or what: it was never about equality. Feminism is *not* about equality, as it proves at every opportunity. If that were true, where are the feminists demanding more men in higher education since women have outnumbered men in enrollment for well over a decade now? Where are the feminists demanding more female representation in oil rig work, artic crab fishing, or logging jobs? Where are the feminists demanding an end to male circumcision? They just don't exist... because it isn't and never was about equality.

  • Traditional feminism was quite toxic in many areas and appropriated achievements from suffragism, egalitarianism, Catholicism, conservatives, and some traditional liberals. There is no good feminism, but clearly the current one is degrading women more than ever. Female characters can be physically strong or mentally very intelligent, they can be feminine and sexy or rude and serious, it does not matter, all that represents women and their femininity is something as attractive as it is powerful.

  • There is nothing wrong with strong female characters, just don't expect me to like a movie beacuse the expect you to like it because of a female lead. Aliens, terminator 1 & 2, Mad Max fury road, edge of tomorrow, underworld, the fifth element, the matrix. are gold standards for strong female leads/supporting chars who kick ass and a memorible, not for being female, but for what thet are ultimately capible of. But when you change ghostbusters to an all female cast and make the movie a cheap degenerated knock off of a classic, with queffing jokes, you undermine the integrity of those characters you wish to empower, making a mockery of what they could of been a good movie if they came at it with integrity and held to the core feelings of the movies that came before it.

  • I LOVED Wonder Woman in both Justice League and WW. Why? Because it was well written and well acted. The character was powerful and she demonstrated her abilities through her actions not by a speech telling the audience why women should be handed something and a "patriarchy lecture or put down of men"...or I'll walk with my wallet. One of my local role models is a women who is our lead health care doctor. She demonstrates so many traits I admire in a PERSON, competence, compassion, well educated and prepared to name a few. She DEMONSTRATES her capabilities. I'd gladly follow her and I've never once heard her pull the gender card...cause she's fucking good at what she does and doesn't expect things to be handed to her. She doesn't need to put others down or ask for a hand out. She leads by example and I truly admire her.

  • Wow. the narrator got it. It was so on-point! I have seen a few interaction between the characters in movies and they were disappointing. The women are so mean and degrading to men, like the lady leader in star wars. There is no need to degrade men, in order to be great. A few of those interactions kill the movie for me. Rehashing of "real-world" victimhood of race or politic also kill the movie. The narrator also points out about earning the respect of viewers. You don't force people to respect you. That is where they went wrong. I am 100% agreed with this review of woke culture.
