  • Don't know where people are getting this idea that Palpatine had children naturally. He cloned himself, his Clone wasn't force sensitive so he fled, then met Rey's mother and they conceived Rey.

  • Personally, I hate both The Rise of Skywalker and The Last Jedi with a passion. The Rise of Skywalker along with Flash Gordon 1980 with Sam J. Jones, Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan, and The Last Jedi are one of the worst movies that I have ever seen in my life, The Rise of Skywalker and The Last Jedi are both the top 2 worst Star Wars films ever made, and I already hate both Flash Gordon 1980 and Die Another Day. The Rise of Skywalker is an awful failure, Flash Gordon 1980 is a pretty awful film apart from Timothy Dalton, and Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan is the Worst James Bond Film of all time. Overall, The Rise of Skywalker along with Flash Gordon 1980 with Sam J. Jones and Die Another Day with Pierce Brosnan are all awful films that I hate, The Last Jedi by Rian Johnson was terrible, and I would rather watch Gumby, The Muppet Show, and Thomas The Tank Engine than watch The Rise of Skywalker, Flash Gordon 1980, and Die Another Day ever again.

  • I do agree with about 90% of what you guys think about this movie. However, I will take issue with the idea that if you like this movie, you have a low IQ. Frankly, I don't know what IQ I have, but i thought it was fine. Having said that, I thought the original movies were fine too. Maybe it's because I never saw the originals back in their run (I saw them in the mid-to-late 90"s) so I don't hold them as dearly as others. I've seem all now, and think some are better than others, but this is, again, fine. I thought the originals were just that too.

  • I’m 19 I grew up on the prequels and the clone wars show. I ended up watching the originals after the prequel trilogy and fucking loved it and how we saw the fall n eventual raise of the Jedi with anikin and Luke finally beating the sith. When Disney bought Star Wars I was optimistic but after seeing how they botched the most interesting parts of 7 with 8 I’m no longer a fan of anything new I’m content with my childhood memories of good overcoming evil.

  • I still think all of the Star Wars movies are basically fine. The best are Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back which represent a high standard and influence in genre filmmaking and continue to be the primary sources for all Star Wars aesthetics and world-building. Return of the Jedi, Revenge of the Sith, The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi are a mixed bag of plot contrivances, schlocky humor, and some emotional highlights with a general semblance of a directorial point of view, particularly Sith and Last Jedi. 3, 7, and 8 are also the ones to get tagged with the "best since Empire?" question by not insane people, plus ROTJ which has obviously had plenty of reasonable debate over whether it stacks up to that watermark. The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and The Rise of Skywalker are nonsensical movies that nevertheless are superficially watchable with good meme material and a few quality moments. Solo and Rogue One, fun franchise exercises, I probably rank them between the second and third groups but certainly acknowledge they have big fans. Anyway I hold no grudges against these things. The whole endeavor is a weird magically inscrutable mix of transcending and kowtowing to commercial moviemaking, often within each individual film.

  • they really some it all up about star wars and how its all really shit, when they suggest the success is a total fluke is spot on... Lucas' original edit was horrendous. if not for editors and John Williams score, and great special fx it was a total flop...then ESB and Lawrence Kasdan directing/writing was the linch pin for the rest of franchise. they deserve a good share of that $4 billion.

  • glad they talked about the music, reys theme is interesting and probably the best addition of the trilogy, everything else was pretty forgettable. it probably can be attributed to how nothing was planned, 2 years between releases, and John Williams was not given sufficient time to create a great score especially with this film since it sounds like they completed it last minute

However, new characters are also brought into prominent roles in the story, such as grand admiral thrawn, for whom the series is fuckin named after. Shoulda coulda woulda

  • It's even dumber in the novelization. In the book, the old, white-eyed, f-ed up Palpatine you see in RoS is a clone. Palpatine died in RotJ, and his soul went into the decaying clone's body on his secret planet. Rey's father is a "failed" clone of Palpy. --__--

  • ROTJ has some great scenes & mythology in it? Luke, Han & Leia don't save the day. Luke is saved when he refuses to no longer react. He's even willing to give his life. You don't pass a major Spiritual test like that only to then forget it! I don't feel RJ understood Luke's character arc or the story properly. Maybe he did in an intellectual way but not in a mythological or Spiritual way. The Emperor kept goading him to 'strike me down.' It's an old soul trap, goading someone to strike or react out of anger. Keeps you in polarity and fighting something rather than been whole, aware and present in the moment! And it was part of the story and done on purpose that the Ewoks, Chewie, Lando and even Vader were the heroes. It was about the underdog, redemption and cooperation(all the Aliens) uniting to beat the might and competition of the Empire! Han & Leia have character arcs too. Leia is a tough chick but shows more of her feminine qualities in the 2nd half of the film. She's the first one to connect with the Ewoks and is always sensing and feeling stuff. Han becomes a General and joins a cause for the first real time. It's obvious he loves her back now and is not just a cynical smuggler anymore! And the story in the Prequels is miles ahead of this incoherent mess. George Lucas may overdo it, like a lot of geniuses do, but if SW was just a fluke, then what about American Grafitti and Indiana Jones. The Original Star Wars is still a good film today. How they even made a film like that in 1977 is remarkable, and people will be watching it long after these sequels are forgotten about. The OT & PT's have a timeless, mythological story that'll be relevant for a long time. Human history has been cyclical. But these new ones are largely just a mirror of modern attitudes and contemporary society and will date badly! And Mon Mothma has more gravitas, calm authority & charisma in 30 seconds than Holdo & Rose's entire screentime put together! 'Many Bothans died to bring us this information!' So there Disney! 😋

  • Admittedly, of the sequels, Rise of Skywalker was the best. The actors finally found their chemistry, and though it was too packed, that meant it did have better stuff in it. And while I hate the death of Kailo, the most interesting character in the sequels, the ending did have some balance to it. Rey was boring but she's supposed to be the protagonist so i get it.

    • "Admittedly, of the sequels, *Rise of Skywalker was the best."* Erm, no. The Force Awakens, for all its lack of originality and plot contrivances, was infinitely better than this confused mish-mash of plot contrivances, failed characterizations, rushed pacing and dead-end story arcs.

Gold discs were a thing for early DVDs as well as Phillips brand Laserdiscs. While I can not exclude the possibility of gold colored BDs existing, I'm not aware of any. The color yellow (gold) being added to the transparent layer of a BD is likely to interfere with the effectiveness of the blue laser used to read BDs.
