This Primaris Bladeguard Veteran miniature from Games Workshop is gorgeous. Pure and simple and one we had an absolute joy painting. In this video we show you how to paint one in the colours of the Blood Angels Chapter (one of Dunc's favourites). We have other Chapters available such as Imperial Fists, Salamanders and Space Wolves on our site at with more coming soon.

  • got a question here, why does everyone assemble the figure first and then paints them, wouldnt it be easier and less of a struggle to paint details or get into the right spots if the parts were still seperated?

    Sven SwizzleSven SwizzleNgày trước
    • Hi Sven. Most of the time no. But there are times when you want to keep sub-assemblies so you build part of the miniature and then say, keep the cloak off so you can access the rear of the miniature. Mostly though, it'#s due to being able to handle the miniature. Also, if you paint it on the sprue, you still need to cut it out and then touch up the open parts which can be a pain. Saying that, there are hobbysists you do it this way and it works great for them so it all comes down to personal preference and what you're comfortable doing. 😊

  • Do you have separate brushes you use for metalics? You seemed to be trying to keep the metal bit off the palette and water, but are brushes the same?

  • Going to be honest... this guy is an awesome painter. You can tell he has been doing it for a long time and really knows his stuff. The problem is the sheer number of paints and steps. I do know of course that nobody will make you buy all this stuff.. but for someone like myself I don't have these paints.. and unless someone told me differently I wouldn't know where to start or stop when it comes to actually painting it. It would be helpful to have you stop and be like, ok! This ones done its tabletop ready and this is a great model for normal gameplay now you can set the model down and move to the next. The steps just keep going and going.. endlessly.. its very daunting and intimidating. What I see when I look at the massive list of paints in the description is cost.

  • Wonderful videos, Duncan! I wanted to ask about the painting of undercuts. For example, with the Chaos Space Marine Chosen from Dark Vengeance (2012) a couple of those duplicate CSM marines have quite "interesting" undercuts around the back of their legs. How do you go about painting this and doing a good job of it? Maybe a video about this? Thank you.

    Kol CeridwenKol Ceridwen3 tháng trước
  • Such great advice at the end of the video: yes, the hardest part of painting minis, or the stage at which things go wrong, is most likely your 'palette work'. Getting your paint to the right consistency and loading your brush correctly is more than half the battle!

  • I just got my McFarlan unpainted space marine, the large figure. I've been watching these videos trying to get some tips on how I should paint these. Since there is a huge difference in size I'm unsure on whether to use a paint brush or a airbrush at least for the initial start. I'd really like to use a really blood red color that's not so flat. I have the citadel contrast blood angel red but it looks pretty dark in the bottle. Also anybody recommend what color the primer coat should be, grey or black?

  • Recently painted my Bladeguard (Smurf flavoured) . For those like me without surgeon steady hands and precision haha, i did the white on the shield last after basing and shading the gold. Getting a little white on the gold is easily fixed. Getting gold or shade on the white is a nightmare touching up haha.
