Spoilers for, honestly, a lot of things.
Click your favorite Marvel movie which is derivative of a Twilight Zone episode:
You think Deadpool’s face is messed up but he takes his mask off and it turns out actually it’s everybody else’s faces that are messed up -
Tony Stark is afraid of the small men in his attic who turn out to just be Ant-Man and the Wasp -
The Guardians of the Galaxy on a road trip being relentlessly pursued by a hitchhiker who turns out to be death -
Odin escapes a retirement home by playing a game of kick the can which transports him to his carefree youth -
A haunted doll pushes Hawkeye down a flight of stairs -

  • Does anyone want to talk about how Starlord is responsible for letting Thanos destroy half of all life because he had to throw an adolescent temper tantrum? Or about how this is conveniently undone by a deus ex machina time travel device, ensureing that Starlord doesn't have to learn or grow from his fuck up?

  • I actually really love 5 characters in search of an exit (although to be fair I absolutely adore living doll so I have a high camp tolerance) and from what I remember it wasn't really trying to have a moral it was just like a little "horror" short with the point being that dolls only come alive in the hand of a child, and the weirdness and sadness of the 5 characters I think kinda shows that. not every episode needs to have a profound or clear message on human nature. although the best ones do.

  • I kinda feel like the fact all the temporary deaths had any impact on an audience that should know better is a decent testament to how effectively this series has created an almost immersive attachment to a lot of these characters. Sure, you know that from a meta standpoint (the fact there's time magic, franchise obligations, etc) they'd never stay dead, but people don't wanna see these characters go through that, or see the survivors deal with that kind of scenario. You know it'll probably be all ok, but the characters don't and act accordingly. I think it's still a highly effective source of drama.

  • Marvel writers are really good at taking nuanced and complex character ideas and taking only the most basic surface level interpretation of them and then misunderstanding that interpretation as nuance because they think they're smarter than they are (like thinking dark knight batman is cool because he's an edgy masculine manly badass man not because he's a repressed homosexual wrestling with self hatred and trauma and coping in the worst way possible because he's afraid of having feelings, or alternatively the slightly different manifestation of the x men movies first attempt at the dark phoenix arc where everyone is basically a cardboard cutout of themselves and instead of trying to show the story they just tell you everything straight up so its like "I'm magneto and I hate all humans and the only thing I ever care about is mutants so now that Mystique is a human I guess I have 0 investment in her even though we've been close friends for decades because I'm so evil I guess because whoever wrote this probably didn't even watch the other films let alone read any of the comics and also is a terrible writer")

  • In the comics, Red Skulls origin is a mystery for decades. Nobody really knows why he has a red skull. Nobody knows if it's a mask or what is up with that. I think they play it off as a mask for the most part though. It's never really clear. He's just some Nazi that works closely with Hitler. And then he put himself in stasis or something and somehow survive after the end of World War II something stupid like that

    CucumamacacapipiCucumamacacapipi3 tháng trước
  • In the comics, the dwarves were one of the races in the Realms of Asgard. Basically, there are evil trolls and There are also dwarves. Depending on the mood of the writer, they would get them mixed up sometimes. So, yes, the dwarves and trolls really are the classic basic fantasy idea of dwarves in trolls. They existed in the comics alongside Giants and other fantasy creatures

    CucumamacacapipiCucumamacacapipi3 tháng trước
  • I think what you meant to say was, it's refreshing that Peter Dinklage is cast despite having dwarfism. I don't think he would appreciate being called an actual dwarf. Kind of a subtle difference and you obviously didn't mean anything malicious by it but still worth noting probably.

    CucumamacacapipiCucumamacacapipi3 tháng trước
  • I dont thing they gasped because they thought that marvel is killing a chunk of their characters. Honsetly, went to the theatre thinking that major diying's gonna happen and still cried during spider dudes death. I was just that into the movie even though my brain did tell me it's sureley not the end end, that they'll figure stuff out and make something up to surprise surprise return them. but it didn't made me emotionless about what was happening in the movie.

  • I feel like "Thanos and Gamora are 'emotionally complicated'" isn't a fair defense of why that scene is dumb. Them being emotionally complicated implies that the script and the interactions between them are emotionally complicated, which it isn't. You can't just have an abusive character abusing their "loved ones" (to the point no audience member would consider them loved ones) and then show them be sad to lose that person and just leave it at "it's complicated".

We now know that (1) the Tesseract contains an Infinity Stone, and (2) that Infinity Stone didn't destroy him; instead it placed him at the Soul Stone as a Guide to take others up the mountain and explain the test. (He's not a Guardian at all. The Soul Stone guards itself.)

  • I honestly couldn't believe that people still thought that comic book characters deaths were permanent, over 25 years after the whole "Death of Superman" incident. I didn't think there were THAT many people into Marvel movies who had never read a comic book before. In the Infinity War comic book, everyone Thanos killed was just brought back to life by using the Gauntlet to wish a time reset ("make everything as it was 24 hours ago"). It was even sillier in the movie though, since they showed him reversing time to undo a death IN THE SAME SCENE as him killing half the universe. Having the fights was beyond silly at that point. The reality stone can turn anything into anything. Guns into bubble machines? Sure. You could instantly end every fight by turning everyone into an eggplant. Can we talk about how every single comic book movie action scene instantly loses all tension and investment when it reaches the obligatory end scene where they fight CGI space bugs while a blue laser shoots into the sky? It doesn't matter if it's hundreds or millions of CGI space bugs. It's boring. The smaller scale fights against actual characters are more engaging; the fight between the magicians and Thanos' two servants at the beginning was more interesting than the "climactic" space bug fight. The fight scenes in X-Men Days of Future Past were some of the best because they focused on little details in smaller scale stuff. Stop making CGI space bug fights! Enough with the blue sky lasers!

  • I went with my cousin, their friends, and my dad. I was the only one that didnt cry at the death of everyone. I dont really cry when people die in movies, but it was more I was pissed at the stupid "creative liberties" the director took. And wth was with Thanos reason for killing everyone, which was, just cause? Really thought a lack of plot was a good take? There were 1000 reasons that movie pissed me off and it was just so bad. I even got mad at my cousin and dad for crying. Its a movie, they obviously all come back, and none of this b.s. was anywhere close to the comic.

  • I have a hot take before I start actually watching this video... I thought infinity war was fucking lame and I didn't bother watching end game. like remember when Tony Stark was building a suit in a cave? and now he's zooming around in space fighting an evil genocidal Maniac with a glove that has the magical abilities of God? anyways people hate when I say that but I don't care I thought the movie sucked

    Andrew HusebyAndrew Huseby8 tháng trước
  • One thing I love (and by love I mean hate) about this whole "lets make Thanos sympathetic and morally grey" even though he still isn't, is that in doing so they retcon their own universe. I loathe the fact that Infinity War basically validates Thanos "loving" Gamora, even though his love for her is more like the love of a dog fighter for his favorite dog, it's abusive and one sided and apparently that counts a big sacrifice to get a powerful stone. It's not, and to even get some people to buy it we have to actively forget that he took her from her home, indoctrinated her, and made her fight against other children he kidnapped and she got tortured the least because she was the best. It's understandable for her to have conflicting feelings of caring about him as she was raised by him, but that doesn't mean he loved her or vice versa. I guess we're also meant to forget that Thanos actually fucked over Gamora's planet since she says that she is the last of her kind now, so his idea is already demonstrably wrong but we just don't talk about it. We even see another example with the giant dwarves, since he only left one alive. I cannot understand why studios felt the need to change his motivation, we did not need to add extra bullshit to these already gigantic movies, he doesn't need to be developed because we're watching because we already like the characters fighting to stop him. We don't need to waste time on him, give us more development in the heroes. Keep it simple, he is crazy and evil and loves Death, especially because the way it's changed actively goes against what we've already been shown and is stupid. If they were really worried about alienating a wide audience with the idea and look of Death, just have Thanos reference her but don't include her, but like you've said we already seem past the point where we avoid things that look silly to most people so why even.
