  • Jon was ‘asked’ to leave by those outside of the show. Look at the timing of him leaving. His show was the only that does what ‘the press’ is supposed to do. If they had only gave context of the environment starting from the 1950s. They would’ve provided an education that would be legendary

  • I like Stewart's response on Trump being elected, "America is the same as it was two weeks ago" I didn't watch too much TV because I worked 16 hr days 5 days a week and 12 on weekends, but I've seen Jon Stewart when in people's homes, and I've always liked him, and to find out how thoughtful he is in his opinions confirms how decent men he is. I tell them my bitter stems from racial discrimination, as a limited reply. Unfortunately, an answer that is more complete is bitterness 😭about realizing there are many layers to America and many of the multiple layers are related to systematic oppression.

  • The danger of Donald Trump is that he's using truths and facts as the bases for his lies and corruption. His focus is himself, and his leverage is all weakness inherent to this nation of unprecidented freedoms. We enjoy freedoms most other countries have only embraced in the past century, if at all. Donald Trump wedges under that scab and pries at it with fear mongering that someone is threatening those freedoms. The beauty of Jon Stewart is that he recognizes it, and spotlights it with clear light, and understanding that there is no perfect, just an obvious better. Jon knows where the rational path is, and leads us through the cacauphany and noise to the source of the signal. He's our tour guide through a landscape of politics, culture, civiliation, and thinking. He is able to highlight the thread of reason out from the wreckage of all discussions that are firehosed at us from all of our available sources. Jon is a singular person, and a resource of sanity. He's as regular as anyone you just don't know, and as famous as television. He's as humble as a bartender, and as spectacular as our purple mountains majesty. It's not his magnificence that makes him the Rushmoore face of comedy. It's his singular focus focus on gettting a simple message to an audience. He just wants us t clearly hear one true thing we can clutch in the torrent of our ocean of changes. I love Jon Stewart like a great messenger, not like a diety or Messiah. I don't want to elevate him to some lofty position. I think honoring Jon would look more like emulating his example of a human being. I want to be a better person because of the kind of person Jon is - warts and all.

I believe if you are voting for donald trump because of a 5-10% tax break then you are condoning his anti islamic, anti jew, anti immigrant, anti equality rhetoric. You've basically just sold your good moral judgment for a 5 percent tax cut? Really?? And it's not like those are people who will go without food. If they live on the same block as jon then they must be loaded. It's deplorable and inexcusable.

  • I wonder how many folks out there where fed-up with the state of the set-up politics where everything is pre-ordained by how much ill-gotten loot bribed those on the take and to such an extent that there is this genuine feeling of impotence , democracy frozen into a permament innertia. YEAH,! Let us choose the worse possible one who will mess-up everthing into something so horendous that in the end we will have to start rebuilding everething anew from the scrach. D.J.Trump might just have succeded to even-up the playing field. Desire to establish universal merritocracy plays a major part inside our heads if not for one aspect that we value things differently.

  • I love Jon's work, but he is still somewhat afflicted by American exceptionalism. Multiculturalism is not a uniquely American idea, nor is it unnatural. Over the course of history, many successful civilisations also embraced multiculturalism in different forms. For example, in the modern world most of Asia is fundamentally multicultural, which is a monolith to him. Unfortunately at the end of the day, Jon is an American, and the rest of the world is mostly invisible to him. I believe Trevor has a far clearer understanding of this, thanks to his background.

  • Watching this on May 28, 2020 - so much has happened since Jon left The Daily Show. Trump has been in office for more than three years and I honestly don't think anyone knew what a total bastard he is and what he has done to America. This week, after Trump ignoring the coming Covid-19 pandemic and continuing to say "it will be fine, we have it all under control", 100,000 Americans have died because of Trump's incompetence. The doctors from the CDC are too scared to tell us what is really going on, because Trump will fire them if they don't follow what he "thinks" or "feels" and that would make things even worse. And let's not forget that Charlie Rose has been fired from both CBS and PBS for sexual assault - for fuck sake, why can't men just keep their bloody penis under control - Rose is a great interviewer - just a shame he is such a bloody prick! VOTE BLUE ON NOVEMBER 3, 2020 and let's get Trump OUT!

  • I love Jon Stewart and I think all of us miss his perspective, but I would be interested in hearing his take on Trump and his supporters now. He may feel differently because I have actually written off several people personally and professionally because they drank the kool-aid, and I don't see a way to walk that back. Maybe time will fix this, but right now I'm not so sure. BTW, I know this was in support of a book, but if you completely edit out Chris Smith this video would be a bit shorter and a whole lot more interesting and enjoyable.

  • Hard to imagine or accept that the wonderfully critical eye of Jon’s Daily Show, as perceptive as it was, had no lasting effect on America’s political culture and may have contributed to the dominance of Trump’s 5th Avenue deplorables. We thought poking fun at ignorance and stupidity was political action, while the deplorables schooled us on political action: build up piles of payoff cash, hire screaming chicken littles and give them permanent soapboxes, and bring out the Nazi lurking in everyone. Jon, we salute you, who may have been our undoing.

  • If there is a god his name would be Jon Stewart. The ONLY NEWS SOURCE I have ever trusted. Jon's brilliance created the daily show and Trump stole the whole machine and invented Fake News. The irony is Trumps lies created fake news only to use it as a political tool to discredit his competition.. Trump is the joke. Jon Stewart is truth and his geniuses allows us all a good laugh. Republicans don't laugh and they are the joke. And those who voted for Trump should be ashamed and responsible for their ignorance.

  • What made America great was the fact that "other people" in other nations called America great. America cannot make ITSELF great - America's greatness comes from "other" people who admire what THEY FEEL America has accomplished. America gets credit for several things that it doesn't even offer it's own citizens, like universal healthcare and paid parental leave, which other countries HAVE invested in because they felt it was, originally, an American idea. Like freedom and justice for all.
