Apple announced macOS 11 Big Sur to much surprise this last week at WWDC. Along with the transition to ARM came a bevy of visual changes (we won’t call them upgrades, per se) and the announcement that Apple Silicon Macs would be able to run iOS apps without modification. Not only that, but that Apple would be placing all iPad and iPhone apps available to download in the Apple Silicon Mac App Store by default unless the developer specifically states that they don’t want it listed. A bunch of multi-touch apps and games require touch input, however, and we’re as sure as ever that touchscreen Macs are on the horizon despite Apple’s insistence that they’re not coming soon. We talk about visual indications we’ve found hidden in macOS Big Sur that help argue why macOS Big Sur hidden secrets hint at a touch-capable future. #macOS #BigSur #SnazzyLabs
My Mam who uses Windows 8: Pathetic
the answer is obvious. put the touchscreen flat like a piece of paper on a table. it is how i draw on my ipad pro and it is ergonomically the same as using a mouse only it is about 50 billion times more natural.
With M1 macs it leaves not doubt .
i so hope that apple wont make a touchscreen mac
I’m disabled with bad hand control and I will be completely completely and utterly fucked if my 2019 Mac Pro had a touch monitor... I’m 44 years old I’ve had Macs all my life and if Apple did this then it would mean the death of Macs for me as I wouldn’t be able to use them and I absolutely hate PC’s so that would mean I can’t use any computer. Thanks a lot Tim Cook!!!
1:20 we love the mac because it is expe(nsive) i meant it is explicitly creative
Random thing, I bet if your voice was a little deeper you would sound someone like the guy who plays solely in monsters Inc.
The big secret is that windows sucks.
Me, touchscreen laptop from HP: :/ it’d change barely anything, you could just tap the screen to click, because they’d obviously keep the trackpad and the keyboard, and the mouse compatibility.
you only get tired from something because you're not used to doin it you do it over and over and your muscles will develop and it will become easier
Worthless
touchscreen computers suck the most, thats why apple doesn't do this
Seems y a right
Here before 1,000,000th view.
I dont want the system back they had befor and then when you want to you touchscreen it goes from Mac OS to iPad os and turns of the system it used before until you want to you it again.
Hmmm, let's consider something for a moment: 1. iPhone - runs iOS on Apple silicon. 2. iPad - runs a version of iOS on Apple silicon. 3. Apple Watch - runs a version of iOS on Apple silicon. 4. Apple TV - runs a version of iOS on Apple silicon. 5. Mac - runs macOS until recently exclusively on Intel silicon. Does it make any sense for Apple to run every major device they sell on their own chips and a version of iOS and then have a completely different chipset and OS for the Mac? The answer, of course is no. This is exactly why Apple have started to switch the Mac to Apple silicon as well. The new M1 Macs share almost all of the limitations of the iPad Pro, and this is not a coincidence. macOS Big Sur on Apple silicon IS iOS with a user interface to make it look like macOS. That's exactly why it allows native compatibility with iOS apps. Is this a huge step forward for the Mac? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! It is possibly one of the worst things to happen in years. Apple don't keep around products that don't make huge profits from, and the Mac has been trailing along for years. The Mac only represents about 10% of their profits, which is around half of what they make on services (20%), so their recent focus on the Mac should be getting people wondering what they are actually up to. rejuvenate
Launchpad on mac os doesn't make sense on screen without touchscreen instead apple macos start menu will make sense menu like on pop os
who else is watching while waiting for their macbook to ship?
Touchscreen windows laptops don’t have significant demand. How many of those people buy a touchscreen laptop without even knowing it’s touch screen? A lot of touch screen laptops don’t have a no-touch-screen option, so someone who wants it is just stuck with it.
Windows is not crap 😡😟 Flawed, but not crap.
only reason why I doubt that mac's will have a touch screen is the fact that it'll make ipads obsolete
Touchscreens on coming they say...to put your off the scent. The real issue is not use upgradable or repairable in the majority of cases. So much glue holding them together that they are now disposable items with built in manufactured obsolescence.
I reckon apple will introduce a monitor for the Mac Pro, like the Surface Studio for the touchscreen macs
1 word: touchpad It’s multi touch which solves one of your main arguments.
Imagine they just emulate a touchscreen on your trackpad with a software update and u can turn it on or off to play iPad games or use iPad software. :) that would be great I think...
i hope ipad will be splitting with mac os and Ipados, i just bought my ipad pro this year, there is still limitation on ipad
1:25 he was 🤏this close to saying "because it's expensive"
Imagine how good Apple (Company) would be, if Snazzy bought it......
Touch screen is soooo dumb idea... and macOS and iOS already merged into iPadOS....
It is so bad, that Apple did not get it, to make Big Sur suitable for 4k. Itself switches silently to FullHD. Set back tom4k, everything has just a quarter of its original size! That does not help at all! Why? We are expecting to have it manageble and ultra sharp, but with correctly sized texts and icons. Why they did not do it in 2021?
They are salesmen so anything they do is right and anything they dont is wrong until they do it then its right. These people are just salesmen you can’t trust a word they say. I used to work for a big company and would watch our salesmen lie directly to consoles faces just to make it seem like our products were the best when they were not.
If not a touchscreen, perhaps a greatly enhanced (expensive, it's Apple) trackpad!
IPad pro users are crying rn
LOOK PLEASE STOP advocating a touch screen MAC. GOD i have enough damn displays to clean 4times a day ALREADY!!! Just make touch pad and keyboards better at interacting with the applications!!! FFS. We don’t want touch screens on our MACS!!!
The iPad keyboard pro wasn’t meant to just be touch based, so this doesn’t really stand. It’s meant to be used with a mouse. It’s just that, they give you the *option* to touch the screen also. The bigger spacing in the safari bar and menus is just a design choice. More negative space means less cognitive load. It’s nothing to do with touch plans.
had to go bag to Catalina, as Big Sur is a failure. Nothing works on an mac air 2015
Scaling is real issue and even windows can’t even do it Lenix is the only one that knows how to scale properly
I think I'm going to be running Mac OS Catlina untill my MBP bites the dust.
We love mac because it’s expen oh I mean
I have two touch screen computers for work. I don’t touch the screens at all. It’s mostly a useless feature.
"we love the Mac because it's expen-" (oh no wrong word dont let them know dont let them know) "we love MacOS because it's explicitly created..." (thank god i think i saved that)
11:48 "So, like Windows 10, but not crap" At that point, I double checked to make sure I gave this video the like it deserved 😂😂😂
Steve Jobs also said that nobody would like a pen... Now Apple are selling one at the price of a new laptop
Thats why i just like windows
10:17 what is this game
NO need for a touch screen
if what u said is true that apple wants their users to spend more on hardware and not less, than I see a "bridge" device or a software update for using your iPhone as a joystick to a game that's natively iOs but on Big Sur. or a device like a track pad that is a glass screen that tracks just like an iPhone screen but its sole purpose is to be a touch screen. It's a stretch but its apple at the end of the day lol
If you want all of that, why dont you get a surface or something?
Is that the apple assistant thing? I thought they never went on sale 😂
Honestly, I have a windows laptop with a touchscreen, and it was cool in the first few months but 3 years later I've really never taken advantage of the touch screen.
to make it more ergonomic, it'd have to be similar to the ipad pro+magic keyboard but in one piece imo, or similar to that Surface you showed. I think it's easier to use that way because the tablet is elevated.
Gigantism and squares in UI suck. The Chrome icon in a white square looks the worst.
We purchase touchscreen pc for many of our staff because they wanted it. Two years later, no one uses the touch screen feature and haven’t for over a year.
I want a wifi modul integrated in my body connected with my brain for having internet just by thinking ! FB will get access direct to my thoughts and the rest capacity of my brain works nonstop for a global superbrain !
Love this opinion piece. Back in 2012 we were briefly using a Windows laptop and the owner casually touched the screen to scroll and my face melted. I realized then that Apple was foolish not to have it as an option. Since then I find myself touching Mac screens instinctively and slightly startled to see no response. Apple must go there and I totally agree Big Sur is staging this ability. That said Apple won’t be going back on its word. They won’t be merging the two. Like splitting iPad OS out from iOS, they have to tweak the OS to maximize the interface dynamics. I don’t think it will weaken the interface any more than the introduction of the pencil weakens an iPad. My wife paints on the iPad and uses a pencil or her finger depending on what works best... just like painters always have. Options are a good thing. There is no one way of doing things that is best for all. Every successful Apple product has that philosophy baked into its DNA. Great video!
Wasn't there a rumor going around about an M1/2/3 powered iPad Pro?
Ooo touch screens... thats what I want, finger prints all over my screen.
Small devices? OK... Large screens? Not so much...
The only thing big sur has me hopeful for is have a mac OS phone. It will probably be a long time, if ever. Idk why they don't make the iphone or ipad with mac os and a ios like GUI for handheld mode. Have it so you can doc your phone into a samsung dex kind of base. (Maybe that dock is built into the touchscreen monitor.) The dock could also serve as expansion to ram and rom.(an giving to much hope to Apple, a external GPU) Hopefully big sur is a step into this direction. What you were saying at the end of the video. You were saying it will end up being 2 operating systems trying to work together but end up working against each other eventually. The way they protect ios from 3rd party applications and such. My dream will probably never be fulfilled. They could probably achieve this, but it will probably force 3rd party apps to only be purchased through Apple store.
We should make a MacPad pro
Touchscreen laptops are enormously sucky. Think of how quickly you adapt to using the keyboard for navigation exclusively, once you add one to a vertical touchscreen. Even a mouse or a trackpad falls largely to the wayside of the scroll keys. Or else you ditch the keyboard and wind up using the laptop as a tablet almost exclusively. The ubiquity of touchscreen laptops in the market doesn’t reflect consumer demand, so much as a hegemony in marketing strategies- it’s equivalent to all the movie studios one year saying “Oh, 3-D is what’ll fill seats!” and then movie lovers having to endure 3-D slapped onto everything for 12 months, whether viewers really want it or not. Today demand only minimally affects production; more often, consumers who want a base product are forced to endure whatever frills a marketing monopoly slaps onto a product in that monopoly’s effort to invent a need. And Apple added the stylus as an accessory to the iPad platform, and not as an integral, indispensable part of it. If I used my iPad mainly for music or for math applications, or for pretty much anything other than drawing, I could go through my iPad’s lifetime without using a stylus once. So I don’t think they went back on what they’d originally said about the stylus as a component being unnecessary to the platform. While I could be wrong about the direction of MacOS, I rather think it’s you who’s missed the mark here… no offense. One of the qualities that has set the 21st century Apple design team apart from the rest has been, with the notable exceptions of the hockey puck mouse and the nipple mouse, its excellent understanding of ergonomics. I could maybe see a laptop with a touchscreen element on the _keyboard_ half of the clamshell, like the touch-ribbon made larger… but the introduction of a straight touchscreen laptop by Apple seems unlikely to me. Then again, they had those horrible laptop keyboards from 2016 to 2019, so who knows: they could stumble again.
Big sewer
Interesting. Wasn’t a MacBook redesign rumored for next year? If you’ve been paying attention, menu spacing has been consistently increasing for yyyyears though. Every major iTunes update the items in the sidebar got further apart. Looks “clean” but also stupid to navigate.
Halto
Big Sewer? Get over yourself.
It’s because touchscreen is useless when you have a trackpad that is enjoyable to use consistent and works perfect after 10 years yes I have had my MacBook Pro for ten years and still use it for everything I do
“Big Sewer”
I've had my touchscreen disabled on my windows laptop for 4 years.
What I want to know is where is my air play from Mac to ATV 4 k ! Call support they were clueless about it . The control center does not work well for mirroring my iMac to ATV4k . Hard to connect and disconnect when done mirroring to ATV .
Big sur has tooooo many problems
your right with your ideas, I keep wanting to touch my M1 mac air constantly
Why the jibe at “Big Sewer”. Thomas Crapper will be grave turning; as we speak...
So wait... Does this hint at a touchscreen mac? IS THE MAC LINEUP GONNA TURN INTO F***KING IPADS?
But they don’t have to bring touchscreens to macs, why not instead put MacOS on their most powerful touchscreen ever, the iPad
I've been using a touchscreen Acer laptop since 2014. It's terrible. The only times the screen get touched is when I try to wipe some dust with cloth and it detected my finger behind the cloth.
They are going to bring the "ipad cursor" to MacOS, I think they want trackpad on all their Macs
This is the death of mouse
An Apple edition of Suface pro would be a day one buy!
@9:56 except screw the people that use Logic Pro X and can't use ANY third-party plugins STILL 🙃🙃🙃🙃
this from the guy losing his shit over the new M1 processor. Pick a lane dude.
I think that they want to get rid of the iPad
Nah
I could see a touchscreen Mac requiring use of the Apple Pencil. Sold separately.
I like your idea of a touch screen laptop that can be separated and run as a tablet on its own. In tablet mode it would convert to iPad os and in laptop mode it’d be Big Sur or whatever they call it.
When apple removed 3D Touch from new iPhones - so removing pressure sensitivity for artist draw/paint apps, I knew they’d finally stopped listening to users. Apple success relied on their basis in BSD unix and Next system - real operating systems compared to the otoy OSs available (including Linux to some extent). I use Mac an iOS because the software works for me. I also use freeBSD - and that’s now becoming more attractive for some used.
So basically Big Sur is Windows 8?
I think Apple will announce A MacBook Touch as a separate lineup so they can keep selling there iPad.
Touchscreen laptops are just a gimmick for laptops that don’t fold into a tablet like device, you use it for a bit but give it more then a month and it’s never used and just smudges the screen
This is a genius analysis.
I agree, I've also been wanting touch on a full blown OSX from apple for years!
hi what tech do you use to make this video?
Bet that’s why they held off on announcing the M1 MBP and any sort of physical redesigns. The MBP will have a touch screen and maybe even be detachable. Do you know what the reason would be for them to combine their two platforms like that? How would they justify going back on their previous promises? It does seem like they just wouldn’t sell any more iPads. Any insight on that now that Big Sur and the ARM macs are out? You know what I would love? A kind of dual-screen setup like a Nintendo DS. Even like if the laptop had a touchpad next to the trackpad or a trackpad that could become a touch pad. I do recording and it would be REALLY neat to be able to put the mixer on a little secondary screen built right in. And that would add value above it simply replacing an ipad.
Lol, it said Jobzezs, It’s really only Job’s own words. Not Jobzezz,
Regardless apple direction to making their laptop touch screen, touch screen on laptop is pretty much useless
frick you . windows is not crap. look at the numbers
Got a surface pro. Works great.
I really hope you’re right 👍
What if... they're not setting the stage for touch-input but for visual-input (Apple Glass?)?
Great content. Subbed
How about ... using the touchpad?!
Plus 300 dollars for touch
did i make u get 3 notifications? lmao
