    • VIworld has been such a boon to this hobby. When I got started in the mid 90s with my Warhammer fantasy battles High Elves all we had were pictures of what experts did in magazines and boxes. There was so little guidance on how to recreate it. My first model that I really spent time on was Teclis and even with the obvious brush mishaps, I was so proud of it. Looking back now, it's just a mess. I didn't know things that are today considered basic starting points, like brushes to use or even thinning the paint. Many thanks to you both for sharing what you know. I think this is one of the areas that makes this hobby so enjoyable.

  • I found this video by accident and thank you very much for it. I'm always scared and anxious to paint miniatures because i keep thinking i'm going to make many mistakes and seeing someone not being afraid of showing errors in their work gives me a boost to overcome that fear. Thank you.

  • I’m glad people enjoy the competitive side of painting in this hobby, but even as good as I am with my work I think being judged in a competition would kill the hobby for me.

    Soontir FelSoontir FelTháng trước
  • I don't think "competition painting" necessarily indicates the rules and flaws of any good paint job outside the competition space. They're judging for a particular look and style, and some of the criticism isn't necessarily in keeping with simple skill or quality. There are styles and models that are gorgeous which would fail at a competition. You also have to qualify for competitions that aren't for amatures, so while you're obviously not a beginner painter, I don't think it's fair to throw yourself against competition expectations you didn't necessarily know or plan for as opposed to simple artistic criticism, like the lighting. I understand why washes and brush control are judged that way in competitions but it doesn't invalidate their use or the effects they have. Certainly without competition honed skills, many painters' shadows would look far worse painted in than using an intelligent combination of washes (which he actually uses on the nercron video linked above, praising the usefulness and quality). So judging it based on competition standards is a lot harsher and rigid than just judging it based on the aesthetic quality itself.

  • Well If you really want to get into mixing colors well colorblind, your going to have to learn to drop count your color batches. It's the only way to get accurate and reusable results for someone in such a certain situation that you can do at home. Log a list and each time you make a new color you like right down 6 drops of x color 15 drops of y color. Now as a side result you can go to a lot of hardware stores and other places that mix custom paint and have batches made from that jump off point. They will scan the paint and mix you up a larger batch. Good luck on your painting journey, I wish I didn't understand your pain on the matter. I may have a different variation of your limitation but it has us rowing similar boats.

  • Or just paint to a level your happy with. I know realistically I can't paint like a pro but I can paint to an exapteble level and no how to how to create contrast. But for me I don't tend to enter paint comps due to this and knowing the competition too. I just paint because I love the hobby. It's impressive don't get me wrong but is it worth it. Nice paint job thoug.

  • Your voice is loud in the videos. It almost takes away from the amazing content in your video. Your explanations and technique are soooo comforting. But the noise levels are uneven for my preference. I understand every one has their own preference, but your videos, in my opinion, would be better if you equalized your noise levels with the artistic outlook of your videos better. On that same note, your ability and video quality some of the best I have ever seen. You actually cured my anxiety
