I agree that this movie is extremely well made, but I think I prefer the 2016 version of The Lighthouse. The idea of a hanging corpse swinging against the lighthouse as a constant reminder really creeped me out more than any horror movie ever has.

I remember hearing about this film being shot in Yarmouth and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the Lighthouse set. It was amazing to see it, especially in a small town like here.
My interpretation: there is no meaning. It’s just a series of bizarre events. The director had a bunch of ideas and put them all into one movie

I very much take the Cosmic/Eldritch Horror Story interpretation. It's about as valid as any other interpretation, but I like it because I literally can't think of any movie that's done truly Lovecraftian horror like The Lighthouse, assuming you take that interpretation.

The Kill Count idea is a good idea but I can’t stand this guys voice.
It's an incredible movie and sure, I had to watch it twice, because I fell asleep the first time, but I'm glad I saw it. The entire thing feels like a fever dream and You can't really tell what exactly is going on. I think the entire thing actually happened and when he looks into the light at the end, he sees, that it's just a stupid light and all those hallucinations he had before were caused by guilt, anger and solitude. The "prometheus" scene at the end might just be his last thought of him and how he sees himself. If I had to compare this movie to something similar, I'd say the concept is really close to The house that Jack built (2018) by Lars von Trier.

I believe the lighthouse is purgatory for Winslow, the light is the pathway to heaven and Wake is the keeper of heaven. Wake tests Winslow throughout the movie, forcing him to work hard and put up with him. Winslow is there because he killed a man and he must in a way atone. When Winslow fails this atonement and kills Wake to try and get to the light (heaven), it rejects him as he has not earned it. He then faces a hellish death which is being pecked alive by seagulls and perhaps this is then for eternity. Credit to for coming up with this

No seagulls were harmed while filming this movie. The seagull scenes were filmed with a puppet, which was digitally replaced with real seagulls.
Was that a SoT reference James?
For me it's a telling of Prometheus or greek story the time being loss the accusation that it was all a death bed dream the mermaid, cyclops, purgatory and ocean unknown horror bring me to a few conclusions if you killed someone in greek mythology a few things might come after you 1.) Lover 2.) Purgatory 3.) Curse of the gods 4.) Wizard The guy finds a mermaid bone or wood cut out possibly meaning he killed the siren's lover and everything that happen is because of her but she doesn't eats him rather lets him lay on the beach for birds to eat him, In which when his body is dying his mind creates the storms and guilt but when he's near death he opens the light to the light house and realizes what's happening. 2.) The ocean is associated with traveling to the unknown and the unknown coming to you, this is a purgatory 2.) Curse of the gods Prometheus time doesn't matter so the reason why time is mix match is because everything that happens actually happens over and over and over but his memory is partially wiped everytime the only time his curse would break is if the events of him stealing light from grey beard horny zeus doesn't happen but because his memory is wiped but the memory is returned for a brief time when he opens the light. 4.) Wizard the old guy was a wizard the whole time now a curse is magical so if you're curse why would the curse have to obey the laws of time. Now truthfully everything that references to some other story or symbol can work here so base of the movie belief is powerful and consequential.

Seems like the whole thing could be Winslow creating a fake persona and story for after the trauma of falling in a lake and being crushed by logs. I bet that Winslow never killed anyone and was really Thomas. Maybe he transfers to the POV of someone else who did kill him/not help him, imagining a fantasy of what would happen to him and of course that Winslow would get revenge eventually, popping up as a source of pain for his killer.
