    • Oh we absolutely do not have free will. All of our decisions are determined by our genetics, G by E interactions, and experiences. We also have no control over any of those things. We come out of the womb not having controlled our genetics, we make our first decisions based on the combination of our interactions and the mentioned variables. And so those decisions are based on things we genuinely have no control over, meaning that there is no free will. However, I would propose that the illusion of free will is just as important as the concept of whether or not it exists in the first place.

  • Weird - i have propably 400+ hours of the witcher 1 under my belt, and have never seen most of the bugs mentoned at 2:26:00-ish. Which is not to say unintentionally funny stuff often happened during cut scenes (like casual friendly chat with another character when monsters stand right next to you, chillin like a villain).

  • I never treated the first Witcher as canon (even in the game universe of Witcher). It has so many plot holes, out of character moments, and a lot of it just don't make much sense. That's why I never hated Triss like a lot of people who say she took advantage of Geralt's amnesia. I love the explanation that this is either Dandelion's drunken retelling of the story, or just Geralt's distorted recollection because of his recent memory loss. The best explanation is of course that it's CD Projekt's first game on a low budget, so everything from the story writing to gameplay is very janky. Witcher 3 still remains one of my top 3 favourite games of all time, and Blood and Wine is the best expansion I ever played in 20 years of gaming. They ended the series as well as it was possible with the story that started as wonky as it did in Witcher 1. I really hope we see another Witcher game in the future, even though Witcher 3 was supposed to be the end. Maybe a Ciri game, where she becomes a proper Witcher, continuing after the events of Witcher 3 (the ending where Geralt gives her the sword).

  • I don't understand why you were so harsh on the scoia'tael in comparison with the order especially in light of the conclusion I just watched about creating monsters. I also don't understand why you weren't harsher on some of the writing decisions that were made in this game. I can call parts of it reminiscent of bad fanfiction and not even be wrong about that. The decision to make it both an adaptation and continuation was hugely flawed and massively drags down some of the otherwise genuinely good pieces that made it in. It's a decision that continues to have consequences for the series even in witcher 3. I respect it much less cause of the sometimes confusing and inconsistent tone and what feels like a lack of originality. I think it could have been better if they set up jaques earlier. Ultimately I respect how far they tried to reach but I wish they'd known their limits a little better.

  • 51:20 If I heard correctly from a person who read the books, where in them, Geralt says that the Witchers have no emotions (as in the games too), and they choose to be neutral, and he taught himself to talk like he does to add to his persona, then yeah, Geralt certainly is hypocritical.

  • I can't get invested in the witcher novels the plot is paper thin by book three - to get Ciri, the worldbuilding is almost non-existent which was the main problem with the TV-show there is a reason why you need a map in fantasy when you're making up an entire world and its nations and populations the reader needs to know why we should care. By book three I still don't really understand what it is Ciri can do, who the Witcher is as a character because most is written as dialogue no internalization, I don't know the history of this world, the motivation behind the antagonist Nilfgaard they just seem to like war and show up when the plot needs them to, and Rience and Vilgefortz just disappear throughout the entire third book. Part of what I like about fantasy is the way an author can create an entire world and its rules and backstory it can be incredible creative and the better feel for the world the more interesting setting for you characters right? The wizards in the witcher seem to be able to do almost anything but I don't know their motivation and what is the limits of their power? Also if you are going to have dwarves and elves in a story you better have a damn good reason for it otherwise it's just a cliché for the genre, same for the wizards. Lastly the books are short which is refreshing but so much is written in dialogues and debates that resemble boring political debates that I just loose interest in. The world and its characters aren't fleshed out and whenever they talk about King Henselt of Temeria or Vizimir of Redania or Kaedwen or Bruga I just think - I don't know anything about these places or where they are so I don't care? Worldbuilding is important in fantasy you can't just throw out kings and nations and expect me to care I need to know why

"Who summoned me?" - if you decide that Abigail is guilty of summoning the Beast, then the fight becomes easy, because you answered Alzur Demon's question correctly.

  • Spoiler alert for Witcher 1. Ok so I sided with the order at my first playthrough as I considered it the lesser evil, at least till the point you can choose neutrality. What drove me to make this decision was the quests Siegfried and the elf leader give you. The order wants you to investigate and save some civilians inside a crypt and the elves want an elven religious relic or something. I took both quests but you can only do one of them as completing one fails the other. I didn't knew this before so I started with the crypt quest cause I was rping that it is the most important of the two since the lives of innocent are at stake. I venture in the graveyard only to find out that it was not ghouls that attacked the civilians but the rebels and they locked them up inside the crypt to be eaten by ghouls. So yeah screw the elves. In another instance they take an entire village as hostage and when I join the order to save the villagers I am treated as a monster for siding with the order by everyone. Shani, Tris, Zoltan and Dandelion all called me an a*hole for fighting terrorists. Of course I reloaded and choose the neutral path but I can't see the squirrels as redeemable anymore.

The Polish voice acting fees far more superior and natural than the English voice acting (Mostly in relation to the first game). I played through my first time with English audio and I feel as if it detracted from how good some parts of this game can be.

I haven’t played DS1 or DS3 as much as 2, and I think it attracts me more b/c of it’s presentation, even tho it’s nothing special and most levels are mediocre at best and the npc quests are really similar to each other, not to mention the hit boxes are wonky. Joseph HamiltonJoseph Hamilton20 ngày trước
  • I strongly disagree with your dismissal of potions. I don't agree with the reasoning that if not using a mechanic isn't a hard block to your progression with game overs, it's useless. Potions and oils in Witcher 1 are fun to engage with and at their best in the series. Actually, more that "their best", it's the only game where they work and that aspect of witchers is properly experienced. Similarly, I think you undersold signs. When I played the game I put a lot of points in igni, and my combat encounters turned out different from how you described yours. For how much you combed through the story and the branching paths with different playthrough, it seems like you didn't experiment much with character progression and the combat mechanics. Or maybe you did and defaulted to the most efficient minmax strat knowing you would have to play the game multiple times.

  • You were wrong right off the bat my guy. Witchers are not just male witches, that makes no sense. They are strictly monster hunters including hunting witches, they have nowhere near the magical capabilities of a witch. And lastly, ciri was trained to be a witcher herself, if they were just male witches then that would be impossible.

  • Well, I guess you really like everything about the game, so it won't be a critique, but a praise. I think Geralt is an asshole, I played all 3 games because I love RPGs and play almost all of them. But I got tired of him, he is always judging people morally while he is no saint. Sometimes he complains about being oppressed in society while he is literally friends with nobles and kings, and is genetically superior to a normal human, to the point of women always wanting to f... him. But I guess I'm the only person that thinks like that. He talks too much, Geralt is a pain in the ass, made me miss silent protagonists. Beautiful game, an aesthetic masterpiece, but the main character is insufferable.
